The Seattle Storm have not had the best start to the season as they try to build chemistry within a new team. In hopes of bringing some more energy to the court, they recently signed a familiar face to a hardship contract, Joyner Holmes.

Holmes returns to the Storm after two stints with them in 2023 and 2024. She played for the Las Vegas Aces last season for six games.

Holmes was selected with the No. 19 pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Storm, but ended the season with the New York Liberty. In 2023, she appeared in 29 games, averaging 3.2 points and 2.3 rebounds, shooting 37.1% from the 3-point line. In 2024, she played in 27 games for the Storm, averaging 2.9 points and shooting 42.3% from the field.

Hopefully, Holmes can come in and give the Storm a boost as they try to get back on track.

The Storm may have had the most turnover this past offseason, as they got a new head coach and a set of new players. Skylar Diggins signed with the Chicago Sky, Nneka Ogwumike signed with the Los Angeles Sparks, and Gabby Williams signed with the Golden State Valkyries.

It’s safe to say that the Storm decided to go younger, and it started with drafting Awa Fam with the No. 3 pick in the draft. They then traded with the Valkyries on draft night to acquire Flau’jae Johnson. They already had Dominique Malonga, who had a solid rookie season last year.

It’s going to be a work in progress for the Storm, but the future looks bright.
