'That’s Our Girl': Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham Lose It Over Teammate’s Brutal Mockery Of WNBA Commissioner’s Dress
Indiana Fever Sophie Cunningham (8) hugs Indiana Fever Caitlin Clark (22) on Saturday, May 3, 2025, during a preseason game between the Indiana Fever and the Washington Mystics at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Indiana Fever defeated the Washington Mystics in overtime, 79-74.

Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham are getting some serious laughs out of the latest WNBA fashion moment—though maybe not for the reason the league hoped.

In a now-viral video shared to Instagram Stories, their Phoenix Mercury teammate Charisma Osborne poked fun at WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s outfit during a public event. The rookie didn’t hold back, reenacting the look with her own twist and sending teammates into stitches. Sophie Cunningham reposted the clip with a simple caption that said it all:

“that’s our girl

.”

Caitlin Clark followed up with laughing emojis in the comments.

It’s all in good fun, though. Engelbert has long encouraged players to show their personalities and speak up. And in today’s WNBA, social media is as much a platform for player voices as it is for highlights.

Still, the league is also dealing with serious issues—like increasing concerns over officiating and player safety. The Washington Post recently highlighted a rise in uncalled fouls and injuries to guards, including Caitlin Clark, sparking calls for Commissioner Engelbert to tighten game control. That makes this lighthearted moment even more notable—it shows players aren’t afraid to laugh, even when the league is under pressure.

The moment also gave fans another glimpse of Caitlin Clark’s growing comfort within the WNBA. She’s not just adjusting—she’s owning it, laughing along and standing by her teammates, even during the goofy stuff.

The Mercury may still be figuring things out on the court, but off of it? Their bond is already shining through.

Caitlin Clark To Help Lead CBA Talks As WNBA Eyes Future

Caitlin Clark might be a WNBA rookie, but her influence is growing fast—and now, she’s stepping into a bigger role off the court.

The Iowa standout confirmed that she’ll be part of discussions with WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the players union regarding the league’s upcoming collective bargaining agreement. The current CBA includes an opt-out clause after the 2025 season, putting negotiations front and center for both sides.

“This is my second year in the league, but also this is also a very important time for our league and where it’s going to continue to grow,” Clark said.

Caitlin Clark’s inclusion is a no-brainer move. And the numbers back this up with record-breaking viewership and a new wave of interest rarely seen in women’s basketball. She could be doing something that no WNBA athlete has single-handedly accomplished as of late. And being one of the league’s most marketable faces and strong voices in off-court discussions, she’s well on her way to putting the WNBA and herself to greater heights.
