AEW

On Friday night at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s “Windy City Riot” event AEW and WWE great Jon Moxley was able to achieve a feat that no other performer in wrestling history has ever done.

When AEW debuted in 2019, they already had a rock-solid roster that featured highly respected talents like the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and WWE legend Chris Jericho. However, it was the addition of former WWE world champ Dean Ambrose — soon to be Jon Moxley — that was a game changer for the company.

Since he jumped shipped to All Elite Wrestling, he has been a major part of their rise to the No. 2 pro wrestling company in the world and his reign as AEW champion is a key part of their history. In becoming champion he joined Jericho as the only man to hold both WWE and AEW’s top titles. However, he has now pushed himself into a new and unique category.

Jon Moxley makes history with IWGP title win at NJPW ‘Windy City Riot’

On Friday night in Chicago, NJPW put on their latest card in the United States and the event was headlined by a major matchup featuring IWGP champion Tetsuya Naito versus Moxley. After an expected war that was one of the highlights of the night, Moxley was able to defeat the Japanese legend to become the new IWGP champion.

He is now the first man in professional wrestling history to hold the WWE, AEW, and IWGP world titles. Something wrestling legends like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, The Rock, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, or even Cody Rhodes have never done, and may never do.

AEW

The only active performers who may be able to join Jon Moxley in this unique club in the near future are Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, and CM Punk who have held two of the aforementioned three titles. However, most of them are a long shot to eventually complete the trifecta before their careers come to a close.
