Alex Shelley looks ahead toward the future.

With a career spanning 22 years, Alex Shelley has crafted an impressive resume in the professional wrestling world. As he now embarks on free agency, though, many fans have wondered what may lie ahead for him. During an appearance on Developmentally Speaking, Shelley shed some light on his future in the business, pinpointing the specific goals he’d like to accomplish next.

“At this point, obviously accomplishing a lot of the same things I’ve done previously in the new company, swimming in new waters would be very exciting,” Shelley said. “The other thing that’s equally important to me is showing up to work and being enthused, like loving pro wrestling and understanding that this is very much a gift. The fact that I’m able to physically do this, and then the fact that I’m able to financially benefit from this is massive.”

“It doesn’t really matter what is going on in my life. When I start to think about pro wrestling, when I actually start to think about the wrestling aspect of it, everything else fades away. Just kind of like titrates down and diminishes versus something that might be a job that you do, where you just have these stressors that [stay] in the back of your mind always because the job you’re doing is not your passion. This is my passion.”

Helping Others

Besides finding joy in his work, Shelley is aiming to find fulfillment as well, particularly in aiding others, and himself.

“I love helping people, I really do,” Shelley said. And I find that helping them helps me too. It helps me be better. it helps me become a better teacher. It helps me sharpen my skills. I hope that doesn’t come across as being selfish because I’m helping them in an effort to get them going. Like let’s make you better too, but I really do enjoy that aspect of pro wrestling as well.
