This past Friday Night was the opening night of the 2024 WWE Draft. During the event, former NXT World Champion Carmelo Hayes made history by becoming the first NXT star to be drafted in the first round. Right after that, he challenged the WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes to a one-on-one match. Although Hayes was unable to win the match, he seemed to have put up a good showing.

WWE CCO Triple H was impressed with Hayes and appreciated him on Twitter.

“After a performance like that against the Undisputed WWE Champion @CodyRhodes, @Carmelo_WWE has shown the entire #SmackDown roster that he is HIM. #WWEDraft,” Triple H tweeted.

Carmelo Hayes also responded claiming that he meant it when he said he doesn’t miss.

“Was on the couch watching #SmackDown last week…This week drafted First Round and wrestling the WWE Champion in the Main Event. When I say I Don’t Miss…I mean it. ? #H1M,” Carmelo Hayes tweeted.

While speaking on the latest episode of SmackDown LoDown, the former NXT World Champion reflected on his match against The American Nightmare.

“I mean, I went into this thing, win or loss. You know, I wanted to make that statement. And at the end of the day, I know, I’m destined for greatness, going against a guy like Cody Rhodes, WWE Champ, for a reason. I might not have made it through. I might not have beat Cody Rhodes. But I shot from the logo. And I’ll tell you what, I hit rim on that. Look, they could have picked anybody, there’s a room full of thems. But they came and they picked me second in the first round because they know that Carmelo Hayes is Him,” Carmelo Hayes said.
