Chris Jericho fires back at WWE after head-to-head ratings battle

Last week, AEW and WWE went head-to-head. In celebration of Tony Khan's birthday, AEW moved its flagship "Dynamite" show to Tuesday, Oct. 10, as a special edition. WWE responded by bringing in The Undertaker and a number of major talents from "SmackDown" and "RAW." NXT won the ratings battle as a result.

Chris Jericho doesn't believe WWE's method means it won the battle between the two brands. Speaking to The Messenger, Jerchio shared his thoughts on the ratings battle between AEW and WWE's developmental brand.

"You know, you can only bring in [John] Cena and Undertaker and Cody [Rhodes] and everybody else so much because nobody wants to work on their secondary show all the time," Jericho said. "And it was a fun little, 'Hey, F-you, AEW.' I didn’t even really worry about it...So, don't get too far up your own a** because you didn't do that good of a job as far as crushing us. And our show was better than theirs, quite frankly. So, it doesn't bother me."

Jericho has experience working for both brands. He understands the core differences in how each company approaches the business. WWE used its head-to-head with AEW to flex its muscle. However, it took a retired legend returning for a one-off segment to push WWE over the top.

WWE has a rich heritage. As a recent startup, AEW doesn't have that luxury. Jericho's point is fair. Is it really winning when you have to dig so deep into the well? Could NXT have beaten "Dynamite" without the help of the biggest stars in the company? Ratings are important. Competition is important. That's why both companies are constantly battling with each other.

They also sign each other's talent. Adam Copeland recently left WWE for AEW, while Jade Cargill went in the opposite direction. Fortunately, the battle is creating better wrestling on both sides. WWE is embracing better in-ring production. AEW is incorporating better creative storytelling.

Regardless of the ratings, wrestling fans are winning, and that's what matters most.
