CM Punk is opening up about the original WrestleMania 40 plans before his injury and when his expected return date to WWE will be.

CM Punk Reveals Orignal WrestleMania 40 Plans And Expected Return Date

The unthinkable happened at the conclusion of Survivor Series. CM Punk returned after a decade away and the pop was one of the loudest in WWE history.

He quickly set his sights on wining the Royal Rumble and then main eventing WrestleMania. Neither happened.

Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble by last eliminating Punk and in the process tore his right triceps. That caused WWE to make drastic changes to WrestleMania as Punk was going to headline.

During an interview at UFC 298 conducted by Caroline Pearce, Punk reflected on what was supposed to happen.

“I was going to headline WrestleMania,” said Punk. “Obviously, now I’m not.”

“But, you know, it’s sports. It’s what happens to athletes.”

“Mentally, I think it’s harder because the physical pain is whatever. But, I look at it just like a bump in the road.”

“This is an occupational hazard. It happens and I’ll be back bigger and better.”

“I’m a clumsy idiot. I tore my left triceps about two years ago, so the right one was jealous.”

Before the Royal Rumble, Punk and Seth Rollins were feuding. It seems likely these two were going to wrestle before the injury.

He is speaking about his time in AEW. While he brought them huge numbers, he was plagued with injuries and backstage incidents before being terminated.

As for retuning inside a ring, SummerSlam or early fall look possible.

“We’re thinking maybe six to eight months,” said Punk. “But, I’m not really in a rush to get back to compete.”

“I’m in a rush to get healthy. I’m in a rush to get better. The sooner I do that, the better I’ll be when I come back.”

Perhaps, Punk could serve as the host for WrestleMania

As for the upcoming card, they have plenty of huge names left like The Rock, Roman Reigns, Rollins and Cody Rhodes.

So, with those CM Punk WrestleMania 40 plans useless and his return date a long ways off, what should he do with all this extra time?
