The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching and they come recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.
WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard recently spoke with Davey Richards, who picked some of his recent matches in MLW and on the independent scene as some that he’s especially proud of.
“I have been blessed with some good opponents, so I’m very happy about that. I just had this really great match with this guy Cody Chhun for DEFY Wrestling out in Seattle. My MLW World title match with Alex Hammerstone [at MLW Superfight 2022] was really good. The finals of the Opera Cup versus TJP. He was my favorite opponent. That was really good, I really liked that. I’ve just been really lucky to have some really good matches,” Richards stated. “My match with Minoru Suzuki for Glory Pro out here in St. Louis, that was one I was really proud of.”
In regards to his tenure with Ring Of Honor, Davey Richards did have plenty of moments that he was proud of. Richards noted that ROH changed so much about wrestling and it was a promotion that was unparalleled at the time.
“That era of Ring of Honor was, I don’t know, I don’t remember there being anything else like it. There was just so much innovation, so much influence from that era of Ring of Honor. It was literally like the ECW stuff. It was revolutionary,” he stated. “I go and teach seminars now, which I really love, and most everything I get asked is, ‘I saw this match in Ring of Honor, Ring of Honor, Ring of Honor,’ and it’s just like, ‘Whoa, man.’ Yeah, you gotta give a lot of credit to Gabe Sapolsky. He was the right arm of Paul Heyman. They could tap into what people wanted and needed. There was something in the water there.”
