Former WWE writer thinks CM Punk will win Royal Rumble

CM Punk will participate in the Royal Rumble. The veteran wrestler made a shock return to the WWE at Survivor Series in November 2023. Since then, he has appeared on TV to cut some promos. We have yet to see him wrestle on TV, although he has had some live-event action against Dominik Mysterio.

In a recent episode of Sportskeeda's "Wrestling Binge" podcast, former WWE creative writer Vince Russo shared his belief that Punk is destined to win the Royal Rumble. He believes the story has already been written and that it's unlikely to change.

"I'll tell you exactly when it's going to happen. It's going to happen at the Royal Rumble," Russo said. "That Royal Rumble is going to determine futures going forward. That's where it's going to happen...Bro, the fact that he has already said a couple of times that he's going to win, that tells me that he's been told he's going to win. And if things change, I don't think that's going to be an easy change."

Punk's return has been a major boost to the WWE. He immediately brings a new level of interest with him and can slide into any storyline the company chooses to put him in.

Having him make a triumphant return at the Royal Rumble would be a smart way of putting him in a position to be part of title battles throughout the year.

However, the WWE could also opt to have him lose late in the event, likely via foul play or being ganged up on, to create a heated story arc that can run until midway through the year.

Punk is versatile enough to sell whatever story a creative writer draws up for him. He's already a smash hit with the fans, who are happy to have a genuine superstar talent back on the roster.

Whatever happens, Punk's presence at the Royal Rumble will ensure there's a level of hype that we haven't seen in a while. His return to in-ring action will ensure the WWE starts off 2024 with significant momentum.
