In an exclusive interview for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall recently spoke with WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther.

Gunther’s thoughts on having the Intercontinental Championship headlining one of the nights at WrestleMania 40:

"Who knows? If I get the chance to be in the Royal Rumble as the Intercontinental Champion, maybe? Yeah, I think going into it, I would be a favorite, so that would lead to WrestleMania, so the chance is there.”

Gunther on possibly breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s reign as longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time:

"Yeah, that's crazy, right? It's nothing that I ever, like, wrote on my wall and be like, you gotta achieve that. It's just more or less a side effect of it, but that's still the future. I still gotta go through Saturday first."

Gunther talked about Honky Tonk Man being at the first independent show he wrestled on. As for any plans for HTM to be present on the night he breaks the record, it does not appear to be happening...at least as of now because Gunther said that he hasn't spoken with HTM.
