For the first time since she jumped ship from AEW to WWE, rising superstar Jade Cargill spoke openly about the reasons why she left the company that turned her into a pro wrestling star.
While AEW has made a plethora of big free-agent signings in 2024, WWE shot a salvo their way late last year when they made a massive splash in pro wrestling free agency by signing away former AEW TBS champion Jade Cargill.
In AEW’s short history, they have only developed a few performers into talents with true superstar potential. And Cargill was one of them as she dominated the women’s division in a fashion similar to WCW great Goldberg. However, unlike Goldberg, the newcomer did it with a smooth charisma that grabbed a legion of fans.
However, since leaving, Jade Cargill has said little about why she decided to leave the company that turned her into a wrestling star. On Friday during an appearance on “Busted Open” radio, she finally spoke out about her decision and it seems it came down to age and the lack of upside in her former home.
Age played a major role in Jade Cargill’s decision to go to WWE
“The machine is ridiculous over here, the connections, the history, the legacy, it’s one of one. AEW is a new company, obviously, they are still figuring things out,” Cargill said. “But that happens in every company, you have to figure out what’s good and what’s bad. I’m 31, I don’t really have time to grow with the company at this age. I have to be in an established company. You can’t do this forever, and especially as a woman in your 30s, the majority of the fan base is like, ‘Okay, it’s time for her to go about her way, what’s next for her?
“Let’s be real, regardless if they are good or not, they want to see that 20-something-year-old on TV rather than that 30-something-year-old woman on TV,” she said. “So time was not on my side and I knew that I had to make the best decision for me and my family. It gets no better than this. The front office is the front office and I think that best sums up what it is. I trust the process [in WWE].”
Jade Cargill will make her in-ring WWE debut this weekend at Wrestlemania 40 in a tag match with Naomi and Bianca Belair against Damage Control.
