Lance Storm is one of the veterans in the professional wrestling business. He recently opened up about the story of how he began to use the Superkick as a finisher.

Lance Storm has been in the business for over three decades. Throughout his career, he has captured several titles including the WWE Intercontinental and ECW Hardcore championships.

Recently, Storm sat down for an interview with Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast. During the episode, the wrestling veteran shared the story behind how he started to use the Superkick as a signature move. He thanked a fellow wrestling legend Jimmy Del Ray who was the main reason for him to start using the finisher.

“It is not something I ever planned or wanted to do… The first one I ever threw was just because Jimmy Delray called one on the fly in Smoky Mountain. He sent me off the ropes and said, ‘LeapFrog me, hit me with a Superkick.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ And just the footwork of Leapfrogging is why I throw it with my left foot, not my right. That is just as I land and turned, that was the leg that was facing him, that’s the one I threw at him. And then when he called it again the next night, I’m like, ‘oh s*it! I should probably figure out how to do this d*mn thing,’ and started working on it,” Lance Storm said.

How did Lance Storm perfect the Superkick?

While speaking in the same interview, Lance Storm revealed how he practiced the finishing move in order to perfect it. He revealed that he would often practice on brick walls to ensure the move was executed safely and to absolute perfection.

“I think… because I know other people don’t but I always practiced mine on a brick wall. Because, if you stiff the guy you knock yourself over. So you have to be pretty much perfect. Because, either you don’t touch the wall or you hit it too hard and you fall over because you’re standing on one foot. So I always, whether sometimes it’s a metal fire door or something but I always would stretch and warm up and I’d pick a spot on the wall and if I could tap it with my toe, then I knew I was late.”

The former ECW Hardcore Champion also revealed that he never really kicks his opponents but rather lunges in a way that it looks like he attacked them.
