Matt Cardona says Trevor Murdoch vs. Tyrus at NWA 74 isn’t best for business, at least when compared to the numbers he could have drawn.

Cardona was stripped of the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship due to his torn bicep injury at NWA Alwayz Ready, and Murdoch subsequently won the gold. Nick Aldis earned a title shot, but he was pulled from the match and replaced by Tyrus.

Speaking with the media at Starrcast V, Cardona was asked about the title match at NWA 74, where Murdoch will defend the gold against Tyrus. He responded by saying that a match with him in it would do better numbers. The former champion emphasized his previous claim that the NWA needs someone like him to bring more recognition to the brand and the title.

“It’s not gonna do the numbers that Matt Cardona vs. somebody would do,” said Cardona. “People think that I’m here to invade NWA. I’m here to save NWA. NWA, when I was a kid, it was old and dated and boring. Before I came there, it was still old and dated and boring. Let’s change with the times. You need somebody like me. I did more as a champion than Nick Aldis ever did, then Trevor Murdoch ever did. If Tyrus wins, I’m gonna do more than he does. He’s on FOX News every week, I’m still gonna bring more recognition to that title.”

Cardona also offered an update on his injury, noting that he’s almost ready.

“I’m almost ready,” said Cardona. “I would say 75, 80%, hoping to get back in the ring for the Wrestling Showcase at the beginning of September. Almost there.”
