Matt Riddle‘s time in New Japan Pro-Wrestling is off to a strong start, as he picked up the win in his debut.

Former WWE star Matt Riddle appeared in a video message at NJPW New Year Dash and called out Hiroshi Tanahashi. Riddle then made his in-ring debut at NJPW Battle in the Valley. He joined forces with a mystery partner to face Zack Sabre Jr. and Bad Dude Tito of TMDK. The mystery man turned out to be Jeff Cobb of United Empire.

The two teams battled back and forth. In the end, Cobb and Riddle took out Sabre Jr. with a double-team maneuver. Riddle then pinned Tito for the win. Cobb teased recruiting Riddle to United Empire after the bell.

Riddle is set to challenge Hiroshi Tanahashi for the NJPW World TV Championship at NJPW The New Beginning in Sapporo on February 23.
