Mickie James is ready to combine her love of wrestling and music this weekend as The Last Match rock musical kicks off this weekend at the Temple Theater.

Former WWE Superstar Mickie James and singer Mikayla Agrella were recent guests on Good Day Rochester. When asked about the multiple forms of art required to put something like this together, James discussed the idea of bridging theater with pro wrestling.

“Yeah, it’s really beautiful, actually,” Mickie James said. “And I think for me, from the wrestling world, to see that translated on the stage in the theater world and bridge that gap between musician and wrestler and rock star. It’s just really, really cool because it’s like a different dynamic. It’s kind of telling that story behind the scenes of like this love story, but yet there’s like the aggression and the wrestling side of it.”

Mickie James explains the story of The Last Match

When asked for some details behind the story of The Last Match, James gave a look inside certain aspects of the story.

“Well, The Fabulous Jenny here is really this love story between her and her husband, who is on the tail end of his career,” Mickie James said. “And then she’s this new rising star, and her career is really starting to take off.

“So it’s this dynamic of that, which is a real story in both wrestling and in life. Especially coming from being a star and then like that falling star while your partner is kind of rising and then it’s that. There’s so many elements to it. And then there’s other characters that — I play the mother, which is like this grizzled vet, which is on par for who I am in real life.”
