OVW continues to grow.
Ohio Valley Wrestling, run by Al Snow, has acquired a new business partner in Genvec Ventures.
“OVW is excited to announce that it has secured a new investment and strategic partnership with Genvec Ventures,” stated a press release issued on behalf of OVW majority owner Matt Jones. “The agreement ensures OVW’s financial stability going forward, adds Genvec Ventures as a new minority ownership group and brings Ed Payer aboard as our new Chief Executive Officer in charge of day-to-day business operations.
Matt Jones will stay on as the head of the majority ownership group. Jones will continue working on OVW’s touring plans in Kentucky and for the first time, OVW will tour the United States in 2024.
The press release notes that the partnership gives OVW “resources, an infusion of time/expertise and a set of individuals poised to elevate the company from a business perspective.”
Wrestlers
WrestleZone spoke with “Mr. PEC-Tacular” Jessie Godderz about Wrestlers on Netflix. The series features Godderz and the talent from Ohio Valley Wrestling working to achieve their dreams of pro wrestling stardom.
Godderz has appeared in IMPACT Wrestling, and he’s also one of Big Brother‘s most memorable competitors. Godderz was asked how Wrestlers stands out from other projects he’s been part of.
“I think that everybody’s going to be able to see a bunch of individuals that haven’t given up yet. I think a lot of people have dreams and aspirations. Whether it’s them becoming a doctor, or a lawyer, or a firefighter,” Godderz explained. “Life kicks you in the teeth enough times to where you give up on ’em. And I think that the depiction that’s going to come across. It’s going to run the gambit of every demographic can see a little bit of themselves and probably one character or another.”
Godderz says the show has mainstream appeal. Wrestlers is in a good position because it doesn’t necessarily paint anyone as the “bad guy”.
“It’s not necessarily like the dynamic that other reality television kind of needs to have, like a good versus evil,” he noted. “This one is, I think everybody’s gonna have an awesome light. And I’m excited, like, wholeheartedly. It’s by far the biggest thing I’ve ever been a part of.”
