Paul Wight Used To Tell Top Guys That He Was Great At Taking Finishes As ‘Sales Pitch’

Paul Wight recalls helping his opponents shine.

Whether under the moniker of The Giant, The Big Show, or under his real name of Paul Wight, the seven-foot wrestler has pulled off some incredible moves over the course of his 30-year career.

Wight recently spoke to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated and noted that his “sales pitch” to top talent early on in his career was that he was great at taking finishing moves despite higher-ups wanting him to stick to portraying a giant.

“That was my sales pitch to all the top guys: I’d tell them I was great at taking finishes,” Wight said. “I took Curt Hennig’s Perfect Plex. In WWE, I could take Angle Slams, I could take F5s. Those were unique times. My athletic ability kept me around in the beginning. Early on, the toughest part for me was developing the right mindset to go along with my athletic ability.”

Wight’s last AEW match took place on the November 15 episode of AEW Dynamite. More recently, he teamed with Chris Jericho and “Speedball” Mike Bailey on January’s Jericho Cruise.

Recently, while speaking to the YES Network, the former WWE Superstar discussed his transition from WWE to AEW. He claimed that hed been blessed with the opportunity to work in one of the biggest companies in the business. Paul Wight also shared that he is extremely grateful to be working in AEW and to be able to share his knowledge with the younger talent and groom them to become top stars in the future.

“[The transition from WWE to AEW has] been fantastic. I was blessed to work for a big company for a lot of years, all over the world. And now, at my stage of the game, to find myself useful in a company that allows me to spread a lot of my knowledge to the younger talent, get a chance to get on the microphone every now and then. And it hands down help their characters along, and then get in the ring and mix it up. It’s probably the single greatest that that could ever happen to me. I’m blessed, grateful, and thankful for the fans who still like to see me do my thing,” he said.
