Could Brock Lesnar return to UFC? Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Report: Brock Lesnar no longer with WWE, is a free agent

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported on Monday that Brock Lesnar currently has no working deal with WWE and is a free agent. Per Johnson, the two sides hit an impasse during negotiations, and those talks are now off.

Lesnar, 43, last appeared on WWE television in April at the WrestleMania 36 show where he dropped the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre. Earlier in the day, fans noticed that the promotion's website was no longer selling any Lesnar merchandise.

Lesnar's alleged departure from the WWE comes at a fascinating time, as rival organization All Elite Wrestling also possesses a national television deal and, theoretically, the money needed to land such a superstar. It's also possible the former UFC heavyweight champion could be lured back to the octagon for a big-money bout.

Jon Jones, arguably the most talented competitor in the history of mixed martial arts, recently vacated the light heavyweight title so he could move up to the heavyweight division. Nevertheless, UFC boss Dana White has said on multiple occasions that Jones won't leapfrog top contender Francis Ngannou for a title fight versus current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

Lesnar could be viewed as a bigger draw than either Jones or Ngannou, and Miocic has no proven history of generating a large number of pay-per-view buys even though he's the most accomplished heavyweight to ever hold the UFC belt. If White is serious about Ngannou receiving the next chance at Miocic, though, the UFC could contact Lesnar about a potential bout against Jones for what many would deem a dream fight.

Lesnar hasn't competed in the UFC since July 2016.
