Bron Breakker sparked some buzz with an impressive outing in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. According to a new report, he replaced Brock Lesnar in the match.

As previously reported, Brock Lesnar was set to return to WWE programming, likely at WWE Royal Rumble. But on January 25, he was implicated in a lawsuit that Janel Grant filed against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. Lesnar was then apparently removed from the Royal Rumble match.

Former NXT Champion Bron Breakker competed in the battle royal on Saturday, and he picked up multiple eliminations. After the match, he stated that he proved himself, and he called the main roster home.

After WWE Royal Rumble, Dave Meltzer discussed Breakker’s involvement in the battle royal on Wrestling Observer Radio. He said that Brock Lesnar was scheduled to return at the show, but that plan was nixed in the aftermath of the lawsuit. Per Meltzer, Breakker basically filled Lesnar’s role in the match, as he eliminated the competitors that Brock would have. (H/t Ian Carey of F4WOnline.com)

Meltzer later added that Breakker had not originally been planned for the match. He noted that Lesnar was set to have an impressive outing, and Breakker filled in for him.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) subsequently reported that some early plans called for Lesnar to interact with the competitors that Breakker ultimately worked with.
