A new report provides an update on WWE’s latest round of releases.

On April 22, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that Von Wagner was among the group of talent that was released the week before.

In an update, Sapp provided more information about Wagner’s release. He cited sources who noted that there were no plans for Von Wagner after he was included in the 2023 WWE Draft. He was subsequently listed as a free agent, but he returned to NXT. Wagner remained there until he was released.

Sapp cites sources who stated that there were never significant creative plans on the main roster for Von Wagner or Xyon Quinn. Quinn was also included in the WWE Draft but rarely utilized. The report notes that WWE sources iterates that the releases occurred with talent who had been with WWE for at least five years. The decision to release these talents was said to have come with the feeling that their trajectory did not match the experience level in the company in many cases.

Jinder Mahal, Xia Li, Sanga, and Veer were also in this round of releases. Sapp previously reported that budget cuts were cited as a factor in the cuts.
