WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg Jesse James recently opened up about his short-lived stint as a SmackDown commentator.

Recently, former WWE 24/7 and NXT World Tag Team Champion Corey Graves, and his wife Carmella were blessed with their first child together. It was a baby boy. Graves and Mella named their baby boy Dimitri. Thus, WWE granted him a couple of weeks of leave for him to look after Carmella and his newborn child. As a result, the SmackDown commentary team had a last-minute, replacement in former Universal Champion Kevin Owens.

While Owens was a good guest commentator, he was suspended after attacking Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. Thus, on the following episode of the blue brand Road Dogg Jesse James joined the SmackDown commentary panel.

On the most recent episode of the ‘Oh You Didn’t Know’ podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer shared the story about how his joining the commentary team came to fruition.

“They did ask me. They said, ‘Hey would you like to do it?’ It was a one-off, they just needed somebody to do it,” Road Dogg Jesse James said. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]

Following that, the former member of DX shared what he thought was a drawback of being part of the commentary desk. James revealed that he felt bad for Michael Cole and Kevin Patrick as they had to follow a script and were fed information into their ears via the headphones they were wearing.

“I loved it, man,” he said. “But it’s hard with stuff in your ear and those guys doing those reads and stuff is crazy to me because I was just sitting there listening to it going, ‘Thank god I don’t have to read nothing.'” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
