Rocky Romero does not have an update on Mercedes Moné, but he says NJPW would love to keep working with her.

Mercedes Moné has been out of action since NJPW Resurgence in May, where she suffered an ankle injury. The former Sasha Banks made her NJPW debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17 and went on to win the IWGP Women’s Championship. Moné’s future has been unclear, and there has been no word on her potential return.

Speaking with WrestlePurists, Rocky Romero commented on Mercedes Moné and where she stands with NJPW. (H/t Robert DeFelice of Fightful for the transcription).

“I honestly don’t have an update right now,” Rocky Romero said. “I hope that I’ll be talking to her agent and her maybe soon-ish, but I honestly don’t have any update about anything. The last thing I had heard was that she was recovering well and basically, they were going to let me know or reach out when she was getting close to a comeback.”

Rocky Romero On Mercedes Moné’s Status With NJPW

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer recently reported that Moné does not currently have any dates lined up with NJPW or STARDOM. Romero addressed the situation and noted that there has been communication, but he doesn’t know what she’ll want to do upon her return. He stated that NJPW would love to continue working with her, but everyone has been happy with what they have done so far.

“There’s definitely still communication,” Romero said. “Obviously, I don’t know what she’s going to want to do when she comes back for sure. Especially coming back from a serious injury that kind of messed her up, you know, maybe messed up her timeframe of what she wanted to do and how she wanted to do it. So, I really couldn’t speak for her, I don’t think it would be fair.

“I think that she thoroughly enjoyed her time in New Japan and New Japan loved working with her and obviously would love to continue to work with her, but I think everybody’s pretty happy with the work that we’ve done.”

As of this writing, there is no word on when Mercedes Moné will return to the ring. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.

Moné has teased appearing at AEW Full Gear. More information is available here.
