Shawn Michaels draws a comparison between 16-time world champion John Cena and NXT star Trick Williams.

In a new video on WWE’s YouTube channel, Shawn Michaels watches WrestleMania matches with NXT stars. In one highlight, he and Trick Williams watched Michaels’ match against John Cena at WrestleMania 23. Michaels then drew a comparison between Cena and Williams.

“I don’t know if it affects you sometimes, but even John was kind of in a position to where look, he’s the champion, but I think people weren’t sure if he was ready yet,” Michaels said. “Again, never let that stuff stop him. Never let that kind of doubt slow him down. He knew within himself, he was ready to take on the best, whether it was Hunter, myself, The Undertaker.

“John had a lot to prove to a lot of people, and you and him are similar in that respect. Sometimes, it’s gonna take you having to mow down guy after guy after guy for you to finally sort of earn that respect from your peers. That’s how you do it, these big-time matches one after another, just clicking them off, and that’s exactly what he did.
