Recently a video started surfacing on the internet. It was a video montage of Sonjay Dutt wrestling during his younger days. Seeing the video, the manager of Jay Lethal reacted.

Dutt mentioned that becoming a professional wrestler was the only thing that he ever wanted to do and feels very lucky and blessed to have gotten the opportunity to fulfill his dream.

“All I ever wanted to do growing up was become a professional wrestler. And I was lucky to achieve that dream and so much more. Blessed,” Sonjay tweeted.

Sonjay Dutt is a realist and hence he has thrived in the business for so long

Currently, Dutt is not an active wrestler. But rather he is a manager. A while ago, the AEW star was interviewed on The Team 980 AM. During the show, Dutt revealed the real reason he has been able to be part of professional wrestling for over two decades.

“I think the two things that I attribute my success over two decades is being a realist, being realistic about what professional wrestling is and what it can do for me and my position, and then adapting. Figuring out when the right time is to adapt to the next stage of my career. Before I was even forced out of the ring due to injuries I had kind of made that adaption to learning the backstage aspects and production. That was ten years ago,” Dutt noted, “so ten years later now, I am fully wet in the pool behind the scenes and helping cultivate the new talent that we have and providing the greatest product on television that we can.”

Why is Sonjay Dutt carrying pencils?

Dutt also shared that he carries a pencil as a form of a security blanket.

“That’s a great question and I’m shocked nobody’s really asked me the origins of the pencil. The actual origins of me and the pencil go back a way’s back, but the pencil behind the ear is something that I’ve done pretty much for I’d say the last 4-5 years, when I really adapted into a backstage role,” Dutt explained. “The first time that Jay [Lethal] and I were on camera, he looked at me and said, ‘Hey, we’re about to go live. Take that pencil out of your ear.’ I looked at him and said, ‘Oh no, it’s staying.’ And we’re off to the races from there. It’s just kinda been my thing and I’ve got to say, having that pencil there is like a security blanket at this point on TV.

“I’d always have a black or a blue pen, and it exploded in my suit jacket and I saw this big stain,” Dutt said. “I go, ‘Oh my goodness… that’s why Vince McMahon never carries a pen!’ He’s always got a pencil, and then I switched to pencils from there.”
