A WWE return for Austin would certainly make the fans happy.
Austin, who headlined the first night of WrestleMania 38 at the age of 57, reflected on his unexpected return to the ring. Despite initially stating he’d never enter the ring again unless all the stars aligned, he acknowledged the unforeseen circumstances that led to his comeback. With a candid assessment of his performance, Austin expressed a desire for improvement and dissected his match with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38.
With the recent return of The Rock and with WWE arguably hotter than it’s ever been, when asked about a potential return, he wasn’t closed off to the idea. The interview dug deeper into a potential opponent for his final career match. Austin cryptically revealed that he had someone in mind but chose not to disclose the name. When specifically asked if it was CM Punk, Austin responded positively, considering it a compelling matchup. He noted, “I like Punk, and I think Punk likes me… so, as long as he can take a Stunner (Austin said with a laugh).” He added, “I consider him a great friend, a great guy and a great wrestler who’s had a great career. We’ll see.”
Austin Isn’t Teasing a WrestleMania 40 Match
However, he clarified that he wasn’t promoting the match and didn’t want to add pressure on WWE or the speculated opponent. And, if it was Punk, it wouldn’t be at WrestleMania 40 since Punk is rehabbing a torn triceps injury.
While he admitted it’s unlikely to happen, he highlighted the addictive nature of discussing the possibility, leaving a tantalizing hint that, in the unpredictable world of wrestling, anything could happen.
