WWE already heavily hinted at The Rock vs Cody Rhodes, but the latest report notes how that match only looks likely for WrestleMania 41.

Heading into WrestleMania 40, WWE was finally able to book The Rock. Therefore, they ignored Cody Rhodes’ guaranteed title shot and gave it to The Rock before fan backlash saw plans change again. This time, Rhodes & Seth Rollins vs The Rock & Roman Reigns closed night one of WrestleMania 40 and night two saw Rhodes defeat Reigns, ending is nearly four year title run. With WrestleMania over, only Rhodes is still appearing on TV regularly. Rollins is taking a short break and the same could be said for Reigns. On RAW, WWE heavily teased The Rock vs Rhodes, although the TKO Board member is back to Hollywood.

The idea is for The Rock to wrestle again. There are several options, with Rhodes being towards the top. Although, that proposed match might not happen for a year according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Fans Must Wait

“From what we’re told, this is very much a long-term thing,” the report stated. “There is no planned date for Rock to return for a match, but it’s been talked about next year’s Mania. As things stand right now, he may work a match later this year but that is not a lock. He would prefer to work with Rhodes in the main event of next year’s Mania, and as we’ve seen, he is generally going to get what he wants. That would seem to lock Rhodes in for at least a one-year title reign. We are told is that isn’t a lock, but Johnson would prefer it.”

Whenever The Rock is ready to return, WWE will always make a spot for him. The money from Saudi Arabia is crazy, so that is a possibility. It would have to be the show in fall as the next one is not far away. Hopefully, they still have Reigns vs Rock somewhere. It seems like a shame to pass, considering how much time was invested in that bout. So, will we have to wait an entire year for The Rock vs Cody Rhodes?
