It’s going to be one of those years for both big wrestling promotions, and so we have an update on Matt Hardy’s contract status with AEW.

While brother Jeff is currently out of action for an unknown length of time, Matt is not.

Matt landed in AEW in March of 2020, right as things started to shut down.

When brought in, it was supposed to be a big deal.

However, and probably in no small part due to the pandemic, there wasn’t nearly the impact or excitement from his arrival.

And in the almost four years since, including several of those alongside brother Jeff? It’s hard to deny, Hardy’s time in AEW has been less than amazing.

Which brings us to this…

Update On Matt Hardy’s Contract Status With AEW

Fightful dropped some news on us about Matt Hardy’s contract status with AEW.

Per the report, Hardy’s contract is due to expire this month.

At this point, there’s been no talk about an extension.

Right now, unless things have been done exceptionally quietly, Matt Hardy is about to once again become a free agent.

That being said, Tony Khan has had plenty of talent in AEW working under handshake deals and short term agreements. It’s entirely possible that Matt will do similarly.

But it is worth noting, even if his departure would leave brother Jeff in limbo, that the pair had recently said they weren’t thrilled with how they’ve been used.

For one of the greatest and most exciting tag teams in history, their time in AEW has been rather forgettable.

Could Matt take advantage of free agency to jump back to WWE? Or might he finally decide he’s just had enough?
