Once a popular on air figure in NXT…and then in AEW…we have an update on WWE plans for William Regal now that he is back with the company.

Regal once served as the general manager and on air authority figure for NXT.

He was running things (at least as an on air character) during some of the brand’s better moments.

Then he was stunningly released.

Tony Khan and AEW did not hesitate to bring the experienced veteran in, and it was one of the better decisions for the upstart promotion.

Regal was one of the few talents for whom Tony Khan actually granted a release.

The AEW boss was asked by Regal for his release so that he could go back to WWE in large part to work with and train his son.

Khan was touched by the request and actually honored it. There were some conditions, specifically Regal could not show up on WWE television for an extended period of time.

Update On WWE Plans For William Regal

That no-television clause has since expired.

We’ve already seen William Regal on NXT a few times in recent months. With the television ban up, does WWE have plans for Regal on television?

According to Fightful, as of right now, there are no plans for Regal to appear on NXT television in an expanded role.

We saw him handing over the GM reigns to Ava Raine, and nothing since.

Per the report, all involved prefer a behind the scenes role for the legendary performer.

It will allow the British talent to help shape future Superstars.

Of course, should Ava ever need help, or bailing out? Then Shawn Michaels knows he has someone not too far away who could easily come in and lend a hand.

Ava Raine has done fine this far into her time as GM, but I will admit…it would be nice getting a bit more Regal in some capacity.
