Becky Lynch urged WWE to put the belt on Shayna Baszler at WrestleMania 36, but they did not listen and blew a major moment.

WrestleMania 36 was unique because the pandemic just started and WWE needed to think quickly. With no real options, they taped WrestleMania 36 over the course of about a week with no fans in attendance. This was the beginning of what would become a bizarre year. One of the top matches was Becky Lynch defending her title against Shayna Baszler.

At the time, Baszler has recently coming from NXT and looked unstoppable after cleaning house at the Elimination Chamber. Lynch pulled for Baszler to win, but WWE ignored “The Man.” In her upcoming book “Becky Lynch: The Man,” she goes over the details.

WWE Dropped The Ball

“I had recommended that she take the title from me at WrestleMania,” Lynch noted. “Had been a babyface champion for so long and could feel the audience beginning to turn on me. I had gone from underdog to top dog and such a situation can’t overstay its welcome. We needed to make more female contenders and what better way to do that than having them win the title on the grandest stage of them all? Everyone wins. Except me, whose request was denied. I wanted to lose, but I would actually win, so it was a loss.”

In one match, Lynch retained, fans were unhappy and Baszler lost her all momentum. Plus, maybe a month later, Lynch vacated the belt because she was pregnant. Asuka just won Money in the Bank and WWE simply gave her the title. There could have been a major tournament and then in the finals, Asuka cashes-in the briefcase. It would have been more completing than what we witnessed on TV. So, should WWE have listened to Becky Lynch and let Shayna Baszler win at WrestleMania 36?
