WWE releases performers in slew of financial cuts

WWE announced Wednesday that it is releasing some of its performers in a slew of financial cuts due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Sports Illustrated's Elizabeth Swinton.

Among these releases are wrestlers Drake Maverick, Curt Hawkins, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Heath Slater, Eric Young, Rowan, Sarah Logan, EC3, Lio Rush, Primo and Epico.

WWE believes the releases and furloughs will be temporary, but who knows how long the coronavirus will last at this point.

The releases aren't the only way WWE is saving money. The executive board members will take pay cuts as well.

Although the coronavirus is sweeping the nation, WWE still will broadcast live shows beginning on April 20, Swinton said.
