Joe Hendry Creates Viral Gold With 'American Pie' Parody

Last week’s NXT ended with Ethan Page and Chelsea Green celebrating their newly won AAA World Mixed Tag Team Titles, only to be interrupted by Hendry and Thea Hail. Hail popped out of a giant cake and hurled pies into the faces of Page and Green, leaving the duo covered in cream and fuming. Backstage, Chelsea’s furious rant took an unexpected turn when she blurted, “I have never been creamed on like this before!” — a slip-up that instantly exploded online.

Hendry wasted no time turning the viral line into comedy gold. Just days later, he dropped a hilarious parody of Don McLean’s “American Pie”, complete with lyrics mocking Page and Green and referencing their frosty run-in. “Just one week ago, I can still remember when Ethan had to eat some pie,” Hendry crooned, followed by lines like, “Pie, pie, Chelsea got pied, says she’s never been creamed, but that is a lie.”

The parody video blew up across social media, which Green then ran with. After all, she's one of the smartest people in wrestling when it comes to rolling with the punches and promoting herself in the process. Hendry's video got a ton of reaction, even from Green's real-life husband, Matt Cardona. He wrote, "I hate that I LOLed watching this."

The Video Might Have To Come Down

On Monday night, Green shared a cease and desist notice from WWE’s fictional attorney Luca Crusifino, demanding that Hendry remove the song and video within 24 hours. The letter cites “public humiliation and reputational harm,” though Hendry seems to be enjoying every minute of it. He then responded that it would give him 24 hours to promote the video, so he reposted it.

This is a prime example of what makes Hendry, Green, and the others involved in this so uniquely special. They saw something that gathered some attention and went all-in on it. It's been great promotion for both wrestlers. When it comes to viral marketing, nobody in wrestling spins humor and heat quite like Joe Hendry.
