It looks like former Penn State QB Matt McGloin is now an elected official.
McGloin, running as a democrat, declared victory Tuesday night along with partymate Bill Gaughan.
In the position, he’ll be responsible for the county’s policy-making and finances.
McGloin was Penn State’s starting QB for portions of the 2010-‘11 seasons, splitting reps with Rob Bolden.
But in 2012, the job was his, and that’s the year most Penn State fans remember him for.
Rocked by scandal and sanctions, McGloin was one of Penn State’s leaders. The team finished with what will probably always be the most celebrated 8-4 record in program history, and McGloin flourished under first-year offensive-minded head coach Bill O’Brien. He ended the season with 3,271 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions.
McGloin quarterbacked some memorable games in program history. He led a 21-point comeback in Joe Paterno’s 400th win in 2010 and led the game-winning scoring drive for Paterno’s 409th and final win the next season.
He also led Penn State to a double-digit second half comeback against Northwestern in 2012.
After Penn State, the former walk-on from Scranton made it to the NFL. He ended up lasting six seasons, playing four of them for the Raiders, where he started a total of seven games over four seasons, with six coming in his rookie season of 2013.
On McGloin’s website, Matt McGloin.com, the slogan is “lead, fight, win.”
“Matt has been incredibly lucky to observe his parents’ life together – their tireless dedication to and support for their sons, their work ethic, their entrepreneurial spirit, their devotion to community,” the bio reads. “They led by example to prepare their sons to do the same one day.
“Matt knew from the beginning, even though he was the youngest McGloin, he liked to be a leader.”
