Former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin is running for a seat on the university's Board of Trustees, joining two former Penn State football players in the spring election for alumni trustees.
Brandon Short, an All-American linebacker and current trustee, is running with former All-American defensive end Carl Nassib and current trustee Steven Wagman. McGloin is running with current trustee Alvin de Levie. The alumni-trustee election begins April 10. The five alumni candidates are running for three seats on the board.
McGloin, a 2012 Penn State graduate, was the starting quarterback in Bill O'Brien's first season as head football coach. He helped the team to an 8-4 record as O'Brien won three national coach-of-the-year awards. A former walk-on, McGloin turned that 2012 season into a seven-year professional career, spending four seasons in the NFL. In 2023, McGloin was elected to the Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners.

I only wore the Penn State uniform for five years, but like every alum, I will proudly wear the Penn State brand for the rest of my life.
My parents instilled in me the importance of being active in your community, serving, and giving back. Playing football for Joe Paterno strengthened those values.
After retiring from the NFL, I realized my calling was a career in public service. That is why I ran for Lackawanna County Commissioner and why I hope to serve the Penn State community on the Boardof Trustees.
Helping lead the Penn State Football program during one of the darkest periods any school has ever faced and being one of the ones who stayed, my commitment to our school never waived and itnever will. Fighting through that difficult time would not have been possible without the support of our Penn State Family.
Penn State gave me an opportunity that no one else would — to further my academic and athletic career. This is now my opportunity to give back to a university that has given me so much. I will oppose tuition increases, be a resource to help our Commonwealth campuses, and fight to restore the legacy of Joe and Sue Paterno by naming our field at Beaver Stadium “Paterno Field.” I amcommitted to serving the alumni on the Board of Trustees with integrity, loyalty, and good character."
