Report suggests Vince McMahon trying to buy bankrupt XFL back

WWE chairman Vince McMahon has made headlines throughout the coronavirus pandemic for a myriad reasons, including the WWE producing and airing new wrestling shows from Florida amid a pandemic, the bankruptcy of his XFL and former XFL commissioner Oliver Luck suing him for wrongful termination.

McMahon's boldest business decision of the year may be in the works.
On Tuesday, The Athletic's Daniel Kaplan wrote how McMahon may be trying to purchase the XFL, which he owned through Alpha Entertainment and the WWE, out of Delaware bankruptcy court so that he could restart the organization once the pandemic subsides.

Per Kaplan's story, the XFL has reached out to at least the Seattle and St. Louis markets about reinstating lease agreements. The league also issued refunds to season-ticket holders, a ploy that would grow favor among proven customers who, theoretically, may again purchase tickets if the league resumes in 2021 or 2022.

Kaplan added that XFL president Jeffrey Pollack is still drawing a salary and that XFL headquarters remain open, interesting decisions for a company that supposedly shuttered its doors in April because of the pandemic.

While the XFL was no cash cow, it received relatively positive reviews from critics, analysts and fans, alike. Per Sports Media Watch and other outlets, television ratings for league games plummeted through March leading up to what was supposed to be the NCAA Tournament, which caused some to wonder about the viability of a springtime pro football competition.
