Like teenagers without a prom date, the remaining free agent wide receivers are finding dance parters quickly, following the 2024 NFL Draft and the end of the draft compensation window last week.
Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders signed former Dallas Cowboys wideout Michael Gallup and the Los Angeles Chargers inked D.J. Chark. The Miami Dolphins signed Odell Beckham Jr. over the weekend.
On Monday, one more said yes to a proposal and two more scouted potential landing sites.
The Las Vegas Raiders agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Jalen Guyton on Monday, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Guyton missed most of the last two seasons with a knee injury, and had been a No. 3 option at best with the Los Angeles Chargers before that.
Also making moves on Monday were former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Zay Jones, who scheduled a free agent visit with the Tennessee Titans. Meanwhile, ex-Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is visiting with the Chargers.
Since scheduling a visit with Mike Williams before he signed with the New York Jets and talking terms with Tyler Boyd earlier in the free agent process, the Steelers have not been definitively connected to any free agent wide receivers.
Most of the smoke surrounding Omar Khan and Pittsburgh has come with wide receivers in the trade market, as the Steelers have reportedly shown interest in Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Courtland Sutton and others, but have not yet been able to make a deal happen, despite Khan acknowledging that they’ve been trying.
“We feel good about where we’re at, but obviously there’s still some unfinished business until we get into the season and we start winning football games and we reach our goal, which is to win a Super Bowl,” Khan said on Friday in an appearance on The Jim Rome Show.
The Steelers seem to be aiming a good bit higher than the available talent pool in the free agent market with their trade interests, but a lot of players that might have been good back-up plans are getting snapped up.
Could aiming for a belle of the ball have Khan risking going stag? Stay tuned.
