After a tough loss to the New England Patriots last week, the Bills return to action on Sunday when they take on the San Francisco 49ers. Buffalo enters at 2-2 while the 49ers currently stand at 3-1. For the Bills to win, they’ll have to have one of their best performances of the season as they try to remain in first place in the AFC East.
Ryan Talbot: Bills 27-24
Brandon Hess: 49ers 31-17
The Bills have shown that they have the ability to put a tough loss behind them as they responded well against Kansas City after a tough season opening loss to the NY Jets. Coming off an even more disappointing showing against New England I do believer the Bills will bounce back with a better performance against the Niners. But San Francisco isn’t Kansas City, they are too deep in too many areas for the Bills to pull this one out. The Niners haven’t lost at home to an AFC team in nearly 3 years (Nov. 8th 2009) a streak that should continue for at least another week
Mike Straw: 49ers 27-14
The Bills are in a tailspin right now, and I just don’t give them the slightest chance to pull this game out.
Mike Bundt: 49ers 24-14
San Francisco has one of the top defenses in the NFL and will make it hard for the Bills to score on Sunday. Look for the 49ers to win a defensive battle.

(Eds: Adds quotes, details.) The San Francisco 49ers figured they were in for a long term project when they selected Missouri defensive end Aldon Smith with the No. 6 pick in the 2011 draft.
They're happy to have been proven wrong.
At the time of the draft the team viewed Smith as an outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's 3-4 scheme, despite the fact the...
The San Francisco 49ers cruised to an easy 45-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills yesterday, but they received a scare when quarterback Alex Smith left the field with a hand injury. Fortunately for the 49ers, X-ray results showed a sprained finger and the injury isn’t considered a significant, reports Cam Inman of the Mercury News: Although he left Candlestick with his finger...
It has been another great start for the San Francisco 49ers, and they should be poised for another playoff run. While San Francisco was upset in Week 3 by the Minnesota Vikings, they bounced back in a big way in Week 4, in a dominating win over the New York Jets.
While the 49ers will never rank amongst the elite when it comes to passing, they are one of the toughest teams to stop...
Patrick Willis has established himself as one of the best defensive players in the NFL. And while the 49ers linebacker is physically gifted, it's what's inside of Willis that has brought him to new heights. Willis has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first five NFL seasons after enjoying a standout college career at Ole Miss. Things haven't always been easy...
San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore notched his second 100-yard rushing game of the season Sunday against the Bills.Fantasy Spin:Gore has carried the ball less than 20 times in four of five games this season but that hasn't stopped him from being a valuable fantasy running back. Through five games, Gore has 432 yards and four touchdowns on 80 carries (5.4 ypc).
One of the most prolific passing performances of Alex Smith's eight-year career again put the Buffalo Bills on the wrong end of a San Francisco 49ers record.
Smith threw for a season-high 303 yards and three touchdowns, Frank Gore ran for 106 yards and a score, and the 49ers amassed a franchise-record 621 yards in blowing by the Bills 45-3 on Sunday.
Michael Crabtree and Vernon...
49ers QB Alex Smith threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns Sunday against the Bills.Fantasy Spin:Smith was coming off two down games from a fantasy standpoint but he shredded Buffalo in Week 5. He has an 8-to-1 TD/INT ratio in five games and has only thrown six interceptions in his last 21 games.
The last time the Buffalo Bills entered Candlestick Park, the 2004 San Francisco 49ers started a struggling quarterback (not named Smith!) the day after Christmas on the way to a 2-14 season under then coach, Dennis Erickson.Drew Bledsoe played conservatively following a running game that pounded the Niners for 226 yards and a 41-7 score.Oh, how things change! In 2012, if you have...
The 49ers beat the Buffalo Bills 45-3. Scratch that they humiliated the Bills. The offense put up a total of 621 yards on offense, a franchise record. We are not going to spend much time talking about how great the team looked today. We will leave you with some stats instead.
621 yards of offense the most ever by a 49ers team.
The 49ers had a 300 yard passer (Alex Smith), two 100...
SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns, and the 49ers rolled up a franchise-record 621 net yards Sunday, routing the Buffalo Bills 45-3 at Candlestick Park. The 49ers broke their old mark of 598, set on Sept. 13, 1992, in a 34-31 loss to the Bills. Smith posted a career-high 156.2 passer rating and fell just 7 yards shy...
