Bob Arum has made a needless and damaging statement about the upcoming Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano bout.

Taylor vs Serrano, staged by Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul, promises to be the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.

The boxing world ought to be celebrating the barriers which are being broken and the immense amount of eyes being turned to women’s boxing – but Bob Arum has opted against doing that.

Instead, Arum has essentially said that nobody cares about women’s boxing, which was just completely unnecessary and casts an unwelcome dark cloud over the blockbuster bout.

Arum is a dinosaur who ought to get with the times unless he wants boxing to leave him behind.

Taylor vs Serrano is a bigger fight than many he has staged throughout his career, yet this is the one which he chooses to criticise. Why? We think the answer is pretty obvious.

Thankfully, the fight has absolutely nothing to do with him – and fingers crossed – neither will any other future female boxing bout.

He ought to choose his words more carefully in future.
