Eddie Hearn Clarifies Stevenson’s Future
When asked about the rumours of Stevenson leaving Matchroom, Eddie Hearn responded bullishly: “We have a two-fight deal with Shakur Stevenson and Turki Alalshikh. We was with Turki Alalshikh earlier for a couple of hours. That’s it. So after the (William) Zepeda fight, I don’t know what’s gonna happen.
“Hopefully, we have the rest of his career with us, but I can’t say that categorically. So yeah, I agreed a two-fight deal with Shakur Stevenson-Turki Alalshikh and that’s it.
“So, July 12, we roll on against Zepeda and we’ll see what happens after that.”
Hearn was then asked if the rumours were complete fake news: “Yes,” responded Hearn.
Stevenson-Zepeda was on course to happen in 2024 before Shakur sustained a wrist injury, which led to Zepeda facing Tevin Farmer. Following that narrow win for the Mexican, he defeated Farmer in a competitive rematch.
This will be an intriguing match-up between contrasting styles. The relentless pressure of Zepeda against the elite defence of Stevenson should make it a fascinating watch for the boxing public.
