Fight between two of the best in boxing set for May 20

Devin Haney will defend his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO lightweight world titles against three-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko on May 20, Top Rank Boxing announced on Tuesday.

It will be a fight between two of the best in boxing. Haney, who’s a young star, will look to add to his undefeated resume against a veteran in Lomachenko.

Haney (29-0, 15 KO) is coming off back-to-back wins over George Kambosos Jr. in Melbourne, Australia, in which he unified then defended the undisputed lightweight championship. He’s known as one of the best young stars in boxing.

Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KO) has won three-straight fights since he lost the WBA, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles to Teófimo López in Oct. 2020.

The 35-year-old Lomachenko is No. 7 on The Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings. He’s captured titles in three weight divisions—super featherweight, featherweight and lightweight.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist last defeated Jamaine Ortiz by unanimous decision last October.

The undercard will reportedly feature Junto Nakatani versus Andrew Moloney for the vacant WBO junior bantamweight title and Raymond Muratalla versus Jeremia Nakathila. No other fights have been announced.

The event will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
