Tyson vs. Tyson? Fury says he was offered exhibition bout with Iron Mike
While 53-year-old former heavyweight champion "Iron" Mike Tyson has generated headlines this spring with impressive workout videos, teases he could compete in a charity fight with former foe Evander Holyfield and an appearance on an All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view, one current fighter claims he was offered a chance to step into the ring with the former "Baddest Man on the Planet."
As ESPN's Steve Kim wrote, current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury told BT Sport on Tuesday he was contacted about fighting the other Tyson in an exhibition:
"I had a phone call saying 'would you like to fight Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight?' I said 'hell yeah,' but I don't think anything's materialized out of it, to be honest," Fury explained.
Fury added that the phone call he received leads him to believe Tyson is serious about returning to the squared circle.
Tyson, who recently declared "I'm back" via an Instagram post, spoke with TMZ Sports last week about a potential third fight versus Holyfield.
"Hey, listen, there are a lot of people out there that need help," Tyson said of individuals suffering because of the coronavirus pandemic, "and something like (a charity fight between Tyson and Holyfield) could help a lot of people that's in need for help."
Fury and Tyson have more than just heavyweight boxing gold in common, as both are experienced with professional wrestling performances:
