The Edmonton Elks made some waves with the release of quarterback Taylor Cornelius and wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr. The club, however, wasn't finished making moves this week.

The team announced Thursday it had also released defensive back Aaron Grymes, and on Friday  Edmonton announced it had re-signed defensive lineman Cole Nelson.

It was Grymes's third stint with Edmonton, a total of eight seasons. He recorded 240 tackles, including 19 special teams tackles, and 12 interceptions in 79 games with the Elks. He won a Grey Cup with the team in 2015 while also earning CFL All-Star honors.

Grymes, 32, played had 54 tackles and an interception in 16 games with the BC Lions in 2019. He played with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016.

Nelson was the fifth overall pick in the 2021 CFL Draft by the Elks out of the University of Alverta. He has appeared in 20 games, racking up 13 tackles. He played 10 games with nine starts in 2023.

Edmonton had 18 pending free agents going into the offseason that included Nelson on the list.
