Michigan basketball is trending now to land with the commitment of transfer portal center Vlad Goldin, who thrived under Wolverines head coach Dusty May at FAU.

Goldin is ranked as one of the top-10 transfers available in the transfer portal according to On3.com. A top expert from 247 Sports put in a crystal ball projection for Goldin to Michigan basketball earlier this week. It was followed by Michigan insider Davis Moseley of 247 Sports, and now Joe Tipton of On3.com.

Moseley tweeted a GIF on Monday that he said he would only post if he knew about a commitment. He used the caption “next week.” Vlad Goldin is one of three transfer portal targets visiting Michigan basketball this weekend, so a commitment early next week seems very possible.

You wonder if Tipton knows something because of an edit he’s working on. Either way, Michigan should feel great about where it stands with Goldin. Now, the Wolverines need to keep working to land Danny Wolf and Connor Essegian, while trying to get Johnell Davis too.

Davis is the No. 1 player available in the transfer portal via On3.com. The NBA draft could be a real option but if Davis plays college hoops next season, Ann Arbor feels like the place. The Wolverines were in a good position for Wolf last week and a visit certainly won’t hurt. Michigan is also in a good spot for Connor Essegian.

Another visitor for Michigan basketball

It’s hard to know how it will all play out though. Dante Maddox of Toledo is another name to know. The 6-foot-2 guard narrowed his list of transfer options to five and Michigan basketball made the cut along with Illinois, Louisville, Creighton, and Xavier. Michigan is expected to get an official visit.

Maddox has started over 80 games during his career. He averaged 15.6 points per game last season along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He’s also a dynamic 3-point shooter. Maddox made 45 percent on 4.5 attempts in 2022-23 and followed that up by shooting 40 percent on 5.6 attempts last season. That’s a high percentage, especially considering 136 makes over the past two seasons.

Maddox can create for others too. He can play out the ball screen and would be an ideal combo guard for Michigan basketball. Imagine Davis and Maddox sharing a backcourt? It seems like the Wolverines won’t land Maddox and Alijah Martin, another former FAU transfer, but Maddox makes a lot of sense too.
