The Auburn Tigers put on a show this past season, led by Naismith Player of the Year finalists Johni Broome and freshman Tahaad Pettiford.
Auburn capped off the season with a program-record 32 wins. The Tigers defeated Michigan State, Michigan, Creighton and Alabama State en route to the Final Four.
They ultimately lost to the eventual national champion Florida Gators in the Final Four, missing their chance to compete for a national title.
After the gut-wrenching loss to Florida, a couple of players on Auburn's roster have announced their decisions about the future with the team, whether that may be entering the transfer portal or declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft.
Pettiford, one of the best freshmen in the SEC, has decided to leave school and declare for the NBA Draft.
He posted a message for head coach Bruce Pearl and Tigers fans on social media, expressing his final farewell.
Pettiford mentioned that whether or not he decides to return, having already declared for the draft, Auburn will always be his home.
"First and foremost, I want to thank God for guiding me through every step of this journey," Pettiford said. "I’m also deeply grateful for my mom and dad, coaches, and teammates for their support. They’ve each played a major role in helping me reach this point, and I wouldn’t be here without them.
I want to say thank you to Auburn University, the alumni, the coaching staff, and the fans. This past year has truly been the best of my life. We’ve had a hell of a run, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.
I’m excited to officially declare my intent to test the waters for the 2025 NBA Draft, while maintaining my college eligibility.
Playing in the NBA has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and I’m excited to explore this opportunity and make the best decision about my future when the time is right.
Regardless of what happens next, Auburn will always be home, and if I choose to return, let’s run it back...

Pettiford finished his freshman seasons at Auburn averaging 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
