Drake transfer guard Atin Wright entered the transfer portal following Darian DeVries’ departure to West Virginia. Wright has heard from Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State and USC but is also considering following DeVries to West Virginia, he tells WV Sports Now.

Wright, a 6-foot-1 guard, is entering his fifth season of college basketball, with one year of eligibility remaining with the COVID year option.

Wright averaged 14.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 35 games for the Bulldogs this past season. Wright was the second-leading scorer for Drake behind Tucker DeVries. Wright shot 46% from the field and 41% from three. The Lakewood, Ca. native scored 20 or more points nine times this season, capping off the year with a 20-point performance in the NCAA Tournament vs. Washington State.

Drake has had six players enter the transfer portal since WVU hired DeVries: Wright, Kevin Overton (11.3 ppg), Conor Enright (6.9 ppg), Carlos Rosario (2.3 ppg), Brashon Hall (0.6 ppg) and Ethan Roberts (12.4 ppg at Army).

DeVries’ son, Tucker, is expected to follow his dad to West Virginia. Tucker is a 6-foot-7 junior who averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Bulldogs this past season. DeVries shot 44% from the field, 36% from three and 81% from the free throw line. DeVries is a back-to-back Missouri Valley Player of the Year, as well as an All-MVC team recipient in all three years of college basketball.

Tucker has one year of eligibility and will have to enter the transfer portal to finalize everything.
