Montay Brandon, who played under Leonard Hamilton at Florida State from 2012-2016, has accepted an assistant coaching job at Stetson University, according to the team's Twitter page. Brandon has spent time as an assistant at UNC Charlotte and Maryland Eastern Shore before heading to Stetson.

During his career at Florida State, Brandon started 122 of a possible 135 games, averaging 6.7 PPG and 3.8 RPG as a versatile power forward. His best season came his junior year, the 2014-15 season, averaging 11.8 PPG and 5.5 RPG, before talented players like Terance Mann, Malik Beasley, and Dwayne Bacon came next season and took a lot of the scoring opportunities away from him.

His 122 starts are a Florida State record, and just behind him are guys like Randy Allen, Michael Snaer, and Jason Rich, while his 135 games played is 7th all-time behind Mann, Okaro White, Trent Forrest, Luke Loucks, Boris Bojanovsky, and Jarquez Smith. He's also one of 34 players all time with 500 rebounds or more in a career at Florida State.

Brandon will be joining head coach Donnie Jones, who is in his 5th year at Stetson and saw a major improvement from 2021-22 to 2022-23, a season that included a win over Florida State to kick the year off.

Jones coached the Hatters to their best season since 2000-01 while guiding the program to their first-ever NCAA D1 postseason game in the CBI Tournament. He has also spent time as a head coach at UCF and Marshall and was an assistant on the 2007 Florida team that won a national championship.
