Michigan basketball fans have been waiting for the first transfer portal commitment for new head coach Dusty May and they might not have to wait much longer.

That’s because while things have been looking good for the Wolverines with Vlad Goldin and Johnell Davis, there haven’t been any commitments to Michigan basketball. Dusty May has been targeting other players too.

Goldin also declared for the NBA draft which made the picture even more murky for the No. 22 overall transfer and fifth-ranked center in the portal (247 Sports). Goldin is 7-foot and while he doesn’t shoot 3-pointers, he’s deadly in the paint and has produced against Big Ten teams in the past.

A new crystal ball for Michigan basketball

The two-time All-Conference selection was a rare transfer addition for May at FAU. Last season he averaged 15.9 points per game, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. Goldin also made 67 percent of his shot attempts last season, which didn’t include a single 3-pointer.

Despite the NBA draft entry and worry about other programs due to NIL, Travis Branham of 247 Sports, one of their national analysts, has put in a crystal ball projection in favor of the Wolverines for Goldin.

With as many as nine scholarships available, Goldin, who has All-Big Ten potential would be a huge first domino — literally and figuratively for Michigan basketball. Crystal balls aren’t always right, but it felt like there was a strong chance Goldin would follow May if he entered the transfer portal.

Now one leading college hoops expert sees him committing to Michigan. We’ll see if that prediction proves accurate but it’ll be huge for May and the Wolverines if it does.
