According to published reports, Purdue basketball is set to take on Big East power Marquette over the next two seasons.

A report by Jon Rothstein said the Boilermakers and Marquette are working on a deal for a home and home series beginning during the 2024-25 season at Marquette before the two teams will play at Mackey Arena during the 2025-26 campaign.

The two teams have played recently. This past season, Purdue basketball knocked off Marquette, 78-75, in the Maui Invitational title game. A year before, the Boilermakers knocked off the Golden Eagles, 75-70, in West Lafayette. The two teams were on a potential collision course this past year in the NCAA Tournament, but N.C. State knocked off the Golden Eagles to earn a spot against Purdue in the Final Four.

While the two teams may be new rivals, Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter and Marquette coach Shaka Smart have a past dating back to Smart’s time at Virginia Commonwealth. In 2011, VCU defeated Purdue basketball during its magical Final Four run.

Smart would again knock off Purdue twice as head coach at Texas.

In addition, Purdue is slated to take on Texas A&M during the 2024-25 season.

According to Rothstein, the Boilermakers and Aggies will play Dec. 14 in Indianapolis at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
