The Minnesota Timberwolves had each other's back from start to finish in the 2023-24 NBA season. Whether that was on the court or off it, they proved that to be true following their lone victory in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.
After winning Game 4 to avoid being swept by Luka Doncic and company, TNT's popular Inside the NBA broadcast didn't feature a single Timberwolves player. Apparently, this was due to the team boycotting the show after heavy criticism from Draymond Green toward Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, as Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania of The Athletic reported.
Per The Athletic:
Edwards was surrounded by a tight-knit team, one with such strong chemistry that it decided as a group that no player would appear on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” postgame show after their victory in Game 4 in Dallas, team sources told The Athletic. The decision was a sign of support for Gobert and Towns, who were the subject of derisive and seemingly personal criticism from panelist and Golden State forward Draymond Green.
Beyond just the criticism of Gobert and Towns' play, Green shouted at Timberwolves fans as they chanted "Draymond sucks." He made Gobert the target of that moment which quickly went viral.
"Rudy sucks, not me! What did I do? I didn't do anything!" Green said to fans at one point.
While it's unknown if that was a primary factor in the decision, the Timberwolves stood in solidarity by opting not to join the popular TNT NBA show. Their season ultimately ended one game later when the Mavericks won Game 5 to advance to the 2024 NBA Finals.
