Sahvir Wheeler last played against Florida (Feb 4th) and has been recovering from a high ankle sprain that he suffered in practice since then. From reports, Wheeler did return to practice the following week, participating in some individual drills. Yet, he has still not returned.

Despite not being on the court, Wheeler has still remained engaged with this Kentucky team, being one of the loudest supporters on the bench and helping Cason Wallace in the point guard role.

On his weekly call-in show on Monday, John Calipari provided an update on Wheeler. Calipari explained that Wheeler is following the doctor’s orders, and “it’s killing him” not to be able to play. Also added, “he has really worked hard to get back at it.”

It looks like a return to the floor will be delayed even longer, or even ruled out given the stage of the season.

John Calipari took to Twitter to announce that Sahvir Wheeler has undergone a minor procedure, unrelated to his ankle injury and will be missing Wednesday’s Senior Night ceremony.

Calipari does note that he is looking forward to getting Wheeler back on the court “soon”. If Wheeler is able to return, he would provide some much needed backcourt depth, and could contribute to a postseason run.

However, despite Calipari’s comments, Wheeler has now been out for close to a month. At this point it is fair to question if a return is realistic, and Wheeler’s future with the program.
