South Florida men's basketball indefinitely pauses, postpones at least two games

Add the men's basketball team of the South Florida Bulls to the list of those currently idle because of coronavirus-related setbacks.

South Florida confirmed on Wednesday that it is pausing activities indefinitely due to the program's COVID-19 protocols. As a result, Sunday's game at the Wichita State Shockers and the Jan. 27 showdown with the Temple Owls have both been postponed.

Makeup dates for those matchups will be determined at a later time.

As noted by Richard Silva of student newspaper The Oracle, South Florida has now had four straight games called off. The Bulls improved to 7-5 overall with a 69-63 victory over the East Carolina Pirates on Jan. 9 but haven't played since that win.

South Florida is next scheduled to host the Cincinnati Bearcats on Jan. 30, but it's unknown if the Bulls will be cleared to resume practices in time to prepare for that game. Some programs that have paused "indefinitely" observed 14-day quarantines for all Tier 1 personnel, while others returned sooner.

"One conference does this, one conference does that," Baylor Lady Bears head coach Kim Mulkey said last weekend when expressing her frustrations about seasons continuing amid the health crisis. "The (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) says this. Everybody is confused. I’m confused. I’m uncomfortable coaching. I understand, COVID is real. I’ve had it — come talk to me sometime. But I don’t know ... all the calls and procedures, that’s gonna go on and make it unusual, uncomfortable for every program. We’re no different at Baylor."
